6 Tips for Maintaining Your Health & Fitness on Vacation

Reading time – 3 mins

Our most controversial and unpopular opinion is that sometimes, we don’t feel great after a vacation.

Too much food, too little exercise, and not enough sleep (or water) can mean we end up coming home less rested than when we left.

If that’s been your experience in the past, you’re in luck. Our team has put together six tips for maintaining your health and fitness while on vacation.

Whether your jet-setting to the big city or road tripping to the beach, these tips will help you maintain your health and fitness while enjoying some much-needed time off.

1. Visit a Local Gym or Fitness Centre

The easiest way to maintain your health and fitness, even on vacation, is to get to the gym. Many gyms offer drop-in passes for a single day or up to one week. You can stick to your workout schedule without much interruption.

2. Find New Ways to Get Active

If a local gym isn’t available, incorporate new ways to get active.

Choose to walk instead of drive, add a hike or swim to your vacation itinerary, and explore new sports like paddleboarding or pickleball.

You can also check out sports that are popular in your vacation spot. That is a great way to experience the culture, try something new, and meet the locals.

3. Ensure Adequate Hydration

When we’re out of our daily routines, it’s easy to become dehydrated.

You may have left your favourite water bottle at home, you’re often on-the-go, and you never know where a bathroom is (or isn’t). But staying hydrated is incredibly important for maintaining your health and fitness – especially when travelling by plane.

If you’re struggling to stay hydrated, keep a full water bottle with you at all times and try our Restore 9 recovery supplement. Each scoop has high-quality protein, a 3-carb blend, and electrolytes to optimize your hydration levels.

4. Stick to the Canada’s Food Guide

It’s no secret that our team of scientists and researchers advocate for Canada’s Food Guide. The guide has seven easy-to-follow principles including eating well-balanced and simple meals, regulating portion sizes, and supplementing to fill any nutritional gaps.

Learn more about the guide here and get a visual version here.

While on vacation, supplementing may be more important than ever. Especially for high-quality protein because as much as we try to order the chicken at every meal, sometimes it’s not enough protein. Muscle 5 has 40 grams of high-quality protein per scoop, plus calcium, vitamin D, and creatine for overall health and fitness.

5. Maintain Your Sleep and Wake Cycles

Your sleep schedule is probably the first thing to go on vacation. Which is understandable – there’s so much to experience!

We highly recommend sticking to your usual sleep and wake cycles as much as possible. It’ll allow you to get more and better sleep. Plus, you’ll be able to transition back to daily life more easily.

6. Maintain Your Sleep Hygiene Habits

Part of maintaining your sleep and wake cycles is maintaining your sleep hygiene habits. You’ll get better quality sleep, which will help you have the energy for all of your vacation activities.

Sleep hygiene habits include keeping the room dark and cool, having a wind down routine, and putting electronics away an hour before bed.
